The idea was developed in response to a growing amount of genetic data available in the equine industry and the lack of tools that can turn this information into practical recommendations for breeders.

The platform combines DNA test results, pedigree information, and artificial intelligence to analyse breeding pairs and generate interactive predictions. Users can upload genetic test results from partner laboratories and receive easy-to-understand insights about genetic diseases, coat colour inheritance, carrier status, and breeding compatibility. Using AI-driven algorithms, EquiGen can simulate potential offspring outcomes and estimate genetic risks before a breeding decision is made.

Unlike traditional pedigree databases or genetic testing providers, EquiGen focuses on interpretation rather than simply presenting data. The platform acts as a virtual breeding assistant, helping users understand complex genetic information through interactive reports, visualisations, and personalised recommendations.

Our goal is to make advanced genetic technology more accessible to breeders, allowing them to make more informed decisions, reduce genetic risks, and improve the quality and health of future generations of sport horses.

About us

Jessica Illge, Medeine Nedzinskaite, and Yassine Sayad are second-year Equine Sports and Business students at Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences. As part of their entrepreneurship project, they developed EquiGen, a concept for an AI-powered platform that supports sport horse breeding through genetic analysis and breeding simulations. Jessica focuses on project planning and business development, Medeine contributes to marketing and communication strategies, and Yassine supports the technical and innovation aspects of the concept development.
